St Petersburgh Farmers Market, Two Children
St Petersburgh Farmers Market is one of my favorite locations for people watching. The market has signs designating it a “Politics Free Zone” so unlike some other locations Florida, the atmosphere here is relaxed and friendly.
We were sitting in chairs, about fifty feet from a band performing bluegrass. I noticed two children planted adjacent to the band. Instinctively I photographed them. They then turned in unison to face the other way. What the heck, I thought, I’ll slip in another photo. Then, to my complete surprise, they turned to face each other, and kissed. You bet I snapped a third.
It’s human nature, to think in terms of one thing or another. In the case of photography, single photo or video. Occasionally, the narrative requires something inbetween - a series of photos.
I love to watch children left to their own devices, free to play and interact unsupervised by helicopter parents. As a street photographer, I value the freedom of being able to photograph them, unsupervised or censored by a hovering adult.
